The “Olympia Odos” motorway is a project of vital importance for the Peloponnese and Greece as a whole. It replaced the old Athens-Patra Road, which for many years had been one of the country's two main road axes and was in need of reconstruction, to ensure faster and safer access to the Peloponnese and Western Greece.

“Olympia Odos” was one of the most challenging construction projects ever undertaken in Greece. The new Elefsina-Korinthos-Patra section, spanning a total length of 201.5 kilometres, which runs along the Northern coast of the Peloponnese, was being constructed while the old road was in operation with no interruption to the flow of traffic. What is more, due to the fact that many of the 29 overpasses were located at the limits of residential areas, there were problems with the passage of heavy vehicles. Construction of the tunnels, surpassing 25 kilometres of length, also called for special quality requirements.

TITAN was involved in the construction both of the section to Patra, which has been completed, and of the section to Pyrgos, which is currently in progress.

The completed section of “Olympia Odos” was delivered in 2017, providing safe and comfortable travel between Athens and Patra. There has been a 30% reduction in the time required to cover the distance and access is now easier since the motorway is part of the PATHE (Patra-Athens-Thessaloniki-Evzoni Motorway), connecting Attica to the Peloponnese and to the Rio-Antirrio bridge, and through there, to the Ionian Islands and Greece’s large ports. It is significant to note that the total number of accidents, whether fatal or not, has been reduced by 80%.

Following this project, Greece now belongs among the countries with motorways that meet high European standards.
