Sustainability of local communities

Creative learning for the schoolchildren of Dervenochoria

The Kamari plant has a long tradition in planning experiential programmes for the children living in Dervenochoria and in organizing educational activities for the pupils of local schools. These activities contribute to the cognitive, emotional and psychosocial development of the youngest residents of the area and are carried out in collaboration with the teaching staff, the Parents and Guardians Associations, and local agencies and organizations of Dervenochoria.

It in this spirit that, last February, the pupils of the Primary School of Pyli visited the “Experience, Learn, Create” (“Viono, Matheno, Dimiourgo”) educational centre, where –guided by coaches and with the aid of educational tools such as motor and cognitive activities and fantasy games, constructions and experiments– they participated in experiential educational programmes. Such centres highlight, through various activities, the importance of experiential learning, which contributes to the cognitive, emotional and psychosocial development of children, with special emphasis on boosting their creativity and ability to socialize, the development of critical thinking, the creation of new outlooks and behaviours, their active participation and cooperation and, of course, entertainment.

In the same period, the pupils of the Primary School of Skourta –accompanied by their teachers– watched the theatrical performance “Theseus and the Minotaur” by Karmen Rouggeri –a very popular author for children– at the “Michael Cacoyannis” Foundation. The educational-recreational visit to the Cacoyannis Foundation involved all children and –as always– all the expenses for the children’s transportation and admission tickets were covered by the Kamari plant.
