"Corporate social responsibility and cultural heritage"
TITAN celebrated its 100 years’ anniversary in Eleusis where, in 1902, the company opened its first cement factory. On this occasion, in August 2002, an open event was held in the town of Eleusis, about Corporate Social Responsibility and Cultural Heritage. For the residents of this historical town, it was like a revival of its ancient grandeur and the legendary Eleusinian Mysteries, renewing their interest for the local sacred archeological site. The event was also attended by the authorities, public entities, as well as by many TITAN’s customers and friends. Welcoming speeches were addressed by Andreas Kanellopoulos, TITAN’s Chairman of the Board, and Panagiotis Panagiotopoulos, General Manager of the Plant.
The event started with the global premiere of the legendary Dimitra (ancient goddess of agriculture) and Daughter (Persephone) story, performed by Sofia Spyratou’s ROES dance theater. It was an original, modern approach to the ancient Myth, through an airy choreography where sensitivity coexisted with the power of simplicity, and lyricism with emotional intensity. (ROES dance theater was created in 1989 and has performed since then in New York, Monte Carlo, Paris, Luxembourg, Limassol, Ankara, and many other cities of the world.).
At the second part of the beautiful evening, attendees had the opportunity to watch the film “Eleusis; from Yesterday to Today”, picturing the historical route of the town through the centuries and including a tour not only of its unique archaeological findings, but also of the modern city it has become. Present was also the “Mikis Theodorakis” orchestra, entertaining the guests with the music and songs of the world-wide famous composer.
Host of the celebration event was the popular actor Spyros Papadopoulos while TITAN had taken the initiative to light the archaeological site, with the intention to offer permanent, international standards’ lighting to the place.
In the context of its first centenary, combining business competence with deep respect for people, society and the environment, TITAN will organize in 2002 a series of events in the locations of its operations around Greece, to promote the idea of Corporate Social Responsibility. ΤΙΤΑΝ has been a member of the European Enterprises’ Network for Social Cohesion since it was founded and is also a founding member of the Greek Network of Corporate Social Responsibility – a non-profit organization with the purpose to apply best corporate practices for the promotion of employment and social inclusion.
