BIO-REGENERATION OF THE LANDSCAPE
A conference organized by Titan Cement S.A. and the National Institute for Agricultural Research
A conference was held at Titan Cement’s Kamari plant in Boeotia on 13 December 2006, on the subject of the Bio-Regeneration of Natural Landscapes.
The conference was organized jointly by Titan Cement S.A. and the National Institute for Agricultural Research, in association with Bangor University (Wales) and the Association of Local Authorities of the Prefecture of Attica.
The purpose of the conference was to identify various forms of damage done to the natural landscape by human activities and to examine methods that can be used to restore and regenerate sites, in combination with various methods of processing and utilizing organic waste.
As a case study of exemplary regeneration, the conference examined the Titan quarry in Kamari. Since as far back as 1971 the Company has been implementing a contemporary environmental protection and restoration policy.
Delegates to the conference included representatives of local councils from the region, scientists and researchers, forestry experts specializing in the restoration of the natural environment and a significant number of agencies directly or indirectly involved in the sector and interested in adopting environmentally-friendly practices.
