Restoration of the archeological hill of Elefsina
Based on its experience both in social issues and in environmental restorations, TITAN Cement took the initiative, in conciliation with the Archaeological Services, to reshape the approximately 60 acres of the archaeological hill of Elefsina, by planting 8,000 plants and installing an irrigation system that will allow them to grow even in adverse weather conditions.
This way the hill regained its beauty and was given back to the residents of Elefsina and Thriasio Pedio as a green oasis for recreation. The event that took place on May 5th, 2001, upon the completion of the project, was honored by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture L. Mendoni, the Prefect of West Attica P. Papapetrou, the Mayor of Elefsina G. Georgopoulos, the Director of the Archaeological Museum of Elefsina, P. Papaggeli and other officials. Present were also hundreds of locals who gathered to admire the reforested area and, along with the representatives of the authorities, symbolically planted each a sapling on the hill.
