15th Graduate Students’ Forum held at Titan's plant in Kamari
Addressing the challenges young people face as they transition from education to employment
and offering them support are high among TITAN's priorities
More than 270 students on 12 graduate programs from the Athens University of Economics and Business, the University of Piraeus, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and ALBA attended the “Graduate Students’ Forum” held on 25 November 2016 at TITAN's plant in Kamari, Viotia. The Forum has been hosted for 15 consecutive years at the Kamari plant by the Company to forge stronger links and promote real dialogue amongst graduate students and representatives of the business community.
Focusing on "Youth employment, current realities and prospects", the first half of the event presented a realistic picture of the challenges young people face nowadays and the skills needed in the modern labour market, but also discussed tools and solutions that can aid the transition from education to employment and looked at what the factors for success are. The panel included Rena Bardani, HR Director / Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV); Polyxeni Kiouri, HR Director / Nestlé Greece and SEE Region; Xanthi Papadaki, Administration Manager / McCain Foods; Niki Fourli, Marketing Manager / McCain Foods; and Dimitris Tournis, HR Director Greece / Titan Cement S.A.
The second panel on "Supporting youth entrepreneurship" focused on the myths and realities of entrepreneurship and presented a successful primary sector start-up. Panos Zamanis, Chairman of Orange Grove, Filippos Zakopoulos, Partner at Found.ation, and Andreas Karafyllis, member of the Board of the THESgala Cooperative shared their experience and knowledge with participants so that they could capitalise on ideas and opportunities for business.
Students and speakers were welcomed by the Kamari Plant Manager, Ioannis Monachos, while Aggelos Kalogerakos, Division Director, Cement, Greece, presented Titan's operations.
About the Graduate Students’ Forum
The Graduate Students’ Forum is part of a wider series of initiatives focused on education, training, and the employability of young people implemented by TITAN. The Forum has been running since 2002 at TITAN's plants at Kamari, Viotia, and Nea Efkarpia, Thessaloniki.
To-date more than 3,200 students from 6 educational institutes and 13 graduate programs have attended the 15 events at Kamari, while 71 company representatives and 19 academics have shared their personal and corporate know-how and insights to help better prepare tomorrow's executives start their professional career.
