Presentation of The Herakleidon Museum Exhibition "I Play and Understand" at TITAN’s plant in Nea Efkarpia

On Wednesday 24 February, the Curators of the interactive, traveling exhibition “I Play and Understand” of The Herakleidon Museum, hosted at TITAN’s plant in Nea Efkarpia, made a successful presentation of the exhibition to representatives of local authorities and bodies, the business and academic communities.

The exhibition will be open to the public until 11 June 2016, giving visitors, both students and adults, the opportunity to experience the association among science, art, mathematics and philosophy, as they interact with special constructions and works of art that introduce the visitor to the meaning of symmetry in nature and art, to the world of numbers and shapes, as well as to the elemental algorithmic operations, and issues of artistic distortion and reformation.

“From the beginning of its operation in 1962, TITAN’s plant in Nea Efkarpia has been a major economic pillar not only of the city, but also of the broader region of Northern Greece. What we all wish and work towards is for the plant to be a cultural pillar as well, promoting history, science and art, and offering members of the local community significant knowledge and unique experiences”, were the words of Michalis Barboutis, TITAN Plant Manager, in his address.

Honouring the event with their presence were the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Yannis Boutaris, the Deputy Head of Entrepreneurship, Competitiveness and Environment for the Region of Central Macedonia, Theofanis Pappas, the Mayor of Pavlos Melas, Dimitris Demourtzidis, the Mayor of Lagadas, Yannis Karayannis, the Deputy Mayor of Oreokastro, Evangelos Karasteriou, Deputy Mayors of neighbouring Municipalities and the Presidents of the Local Districts of Nea Efkarpia and Lagina, the Commander of the 34th Mechanized Brigade, Brigadier Miltiadis Papagiannoulis, the Very Reverend Chrysostomos Telidis, the President of the Federation of Industries of Northern Greece (FING), Athanasios Savvakis, the Vice-Rector for Academic & Student Affairs of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Professor Ariadni Stogiannidou, the Vice-President of the Governing Board of the International Hellenic University, Professor Nikolaos Moussiopoulos, school principals, residents of the broader region and other guests. Opening speeches were delivered by Dimitris Papalexopoulos, CEO of TITAN Group, and by the Founder of The Herakleidon Museum, Pavlos Firos, followed by a guided tour by the Curators of the exhibition Aris Mavromatis and Apostolos Papanikolaou.

The exhibition will last until 11 June 2016. Guided tours will be available for schools, in consultation with TITAN’s plant.
