Interactive "I Play and Understand" Exhibition Opening at the Leonidas Canellopoulos Cultural Center in Elefsina
The successful opening of the Herakleidon Museum’s Interactive Exhibition of Art, Science and Mathematics titled “I Play and Understand” took place on Wednesday, October 14, at the Leonidas Canellopoulos Cultural Center in Elefsina. The exhibition is organized as part of TITAN’s annual tradition, in cooperation with the Municipality of Elefsina and the local Cultural, Sports, Social Policy and Pre-School Education Organization, in honor of the late Leonidas Canellopoulos, who had served as President of the Company for many years.
More than 150 representatives of the local authorities, residents of Elefsina and visitors attended the event. Gavriil Kambanis, President of the Elefsina Municipality Public Benefit Company gave the introductory speech; other speakers included George Tsoukalas, Mayor of Elefsina, Nellos Canellopoulos, Director of External Relations - TITAN Group and Yannis Maniatis, former Minister and MP. A presentation and guided tour around the exhibition hosted by its curators Aris Mavrommatis and Apostolos Papanikolaou followed.
TITAN’s ambition for the exhibitions held at the Leonidas Canellopoulos Cultural Center is that they are both educational and entertaining. This was very successfully achieved with the “I Play and Understand” exhibition. Many representatives of the educational community have expressed their interest to plan visits and guided tours for students not only from Elefsina and the neighboring towns, but also from the greater Attica area. To enhance the student experience, a special familiarization event will be organized for teachers.
The originality, as well as the uniqueness of the exhibition, lies in the manner in which the visitor, in playing and interacting with the special exhibits, experiences the inter-relationship of science, art, mathematics, and philosophy, and thus realizes the twofold need of the human intellect for expression (art) and understanding (logic and mathematics).
The design and implementation of this exhibition draws from international experience in the field of interactive learning, particularly the relevant program suggested by UNESCO (http://bit.ly/UNESCO_Science_Education), while various original structures were designed and manufactured.
Interested parties can visit the exhibition until December 30, 2015. Guided tours will be available for schools; to book, please call +30 210 55 65 614 - +30 210 5565612.
