WORKING TOGETHER FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY

With thousands of industrial accidents still occurring every year in Greece, it is essential that we all accept responsibility for improving safety in the workplace.

This is why at the Stakeholders’ Forum held at the initiative of TITAN at the Kamari plant on 1st March 2010 - attended by representatives of local authorities and companies such as ELPE [Hellenic Petroleum], DESFA [Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator], HALYVOURGIKI and POLYECO - a decision was taken on direct collective action to pass on our experience and knowledge of health and safety in the workplace to our contractors.

As a result of this decision, a first series of seminars was held at the beginning of April under the general title Improving Health and Safety for Supervisors of Contractors’ Crews and SME’s.

The seminars lasted nine hours and were organized by managers from TITAN, ELPE and HALYVOURGIKI. The intention was to raise awareness of health and safety issues among those in charge of contractors’ employees. They were attended by 30 contractors’ supervisors and managers of technical services from the Municipality of Elefsina.

Similar events will be staged in future to brief other groups of contractors and municipal technical services.

Likewise, another series of seminars, lasting ten hours over four days, was held in Elefsina under the title Improving health and safety in municipal waste removal. The seminars were organized and financed by TITAN and featured presentations by specialist workplace physicians from the Hellenic Health and Safety Institute. The seminars were attended by thirty individuals from the Elefsina Municipality.

TITAN and the other companies involved in the Stakeholders’ Forum on 1st March 2010 intend to continue with this valuable initiative.
