NEW ADDITIONS TO THE CULTURAL LIFE OF ELEFSINA
"Two important cultural events took place in Elefsina on Tuesday 5th July 2005 – both of them under the aegis of the Deputy Minister for Culture, Mr. Petros Tatoulis. The first was the official opening of the new lighting system illuminating the archaeological site, and the second the opening of the town’s new cultural and educational centre.
The lighting and promotion of the archaeological site were the result of a commitment made by the TITAN Cement company during its centenary celebrations in 2002. Three years later the project is complete and thanks to TITAN the people of this historic town and those who visit it can now enjoy the ancient site in the evening, with all the ancient treasures of Elefsina now fully illuminated in the lighting designed by Pierre Bideau, an internationally renowned designer who was also responsible for illuminating the Acropolis and the other Athenian monuments for the Olympic Games.
The new Cultural and Educational Centre is housed in a building donated by TITAN to the Municipality of Elefsina. It has been renovated in exemplary fashion by the Municipality and greatly enhances the shoreline of the town.
The centre, now the property of the Municipality, will greatly enrich the cultural life of the town, beginning with an exhibition of works by the great local artist Thanos Tsingos (1914-1965). TITAN will be the exhibition’s official sponsor."
