ATTICA METRO LINE 3

The line bringing Piraeus closer to Athens

INTERBETON contributed to the completion of yet another landmark project in the Attica region — one that significantly improves the quality of life for residents as well as for tourists visiting Greece. The project concerns the three new metro stations “Maniatika”, “Piraeus”, and “Dimotiko Theatro”, which mark the completion of the 7.6 km extension of Athens Metro Line 3. This extension now connects the country’s largest port directly with Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos.”

INTERBETON supplied a total of over 150,000 m³ of concrete, serving exclusively the Agia Varvara and Nikaia stations during the project’s first phase, as well as the Deligianni shaft in the Piraeus area. The company also participated to other stations along the line, contributing substantially — both in volume and quality — to the “Piraeus” station. The completion of the new metro line involved demanding concrete works (up to 2,000 m³), requiring the deployment of a large fleet of concrete mixer trucks operating simultaneously with three concrete pumps.

At the same time, INTERMIX supplied high-quality materials for the project — particularly for the Agia Varvara, Nikaia, Korydallos, Maniatika, and Dimotiko Theatro stations — including masonry mortars, wall coatings, and tile adhesives. In total, INTERMIX delivered 3,500 tons of bulk mortars, produced at its Elefsina plant under particularly strict specifications to ensure top-quality results. For the main structural concrete works, special concrete mixes were selected — featuring reduced water permeability and high early strength — which were tested by the University of Patras and approved by Attiko Metro.
