Νew gateway between Greece and Bulgaria
The Vertical Axis “Xanthi–Echinos–Greek-Bulgarian Borders,” implemented by EGNATIA ODOS S.A., is a project of strategic importance that strengthens the economic and social ties between Greece and Bulgaria. Its development was supported by a Bilateral Agreement Protocol signed between the two countries. The project connects the Egnatia Motorway with the Greek-Bulgarian border through a new border crossing station and forms part of the Trans-European Road Network.
This section extends approximately 9 km and includes the improvement of the existing road, the construction of a new segment, as well as the construction of five bridges and three tunnels, with a total length of 900 and 750 meters respectively. TITAN is the exclusive supplier of bulk cement for the project.
Upon completion, the “Xanthi–Echinos–Greek-Bulgarian Borders” Vertical Axis will further enhance bilateral relations between the two countries and generate significant economic benefits through the development of commercial and other activities, both in the city of Xanthi and across the region of Thrace, as well as in Bulgaria’s hinterland (Smolyan, Plovdiv, etc.).
