Bone marrow donors: our gift of life, in cooperation with the Centre to Advance Public Awareness & Recruitment of Bone Marrow Donor Volunteers of the University of Patra (CBMDP)!
In our country, there are thousands of patients (including many children) who suffer from blood disorders and for whom bone marrow transplant from either a relative or a volunteer donor is the only treatment.
A large number of patients do not have a histocompatible donor in their environment so their only hope is to find a volunteer donor from the World Marrow Donor Association.
In recent years, our family of employees has substantially contributed to social actions related to bone marrow donation. It is a simple but sacred act and literally a gift of life to our fellow human beings.
Our campaign was launched in 2010 and is run in cooperation with the Centre to Advance Public Awareness & Recruitment of Bone Marrow Donor Volunteers of the University of Patra (CBMDP), a non-profit organization whose main objective is to increase the number of Greek bone marrow donors.
We cover the cost of the examination of each donor’s sample and act as ambassadors to provide information and raise awareness among employees and their families, the local communities in which we operate and the students of the BEST (Board of European Students of Technology) teams of the Faculty of Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, of the University of Patra and of the National Technical University of Athens, with which we collaborate.
There are already 608 volunteer donors:
- 241 TITAN and INTERBETON employees and their family members, as well as our partners’ employees.
- 307 BEST team students.
- 60 members of local communities.
Four donors were identified among our employees and gave the gift of life to fellow human beings who had been deprived of hope.
It is very important to us that, in the autumn of 2017, the CBMDP awarded our employees with a certificate of honour in recognition of their contribution to the Centre’s task of raising awareness, providing information and attracting volunteer bone marrow donors.
